Thousands of hours of playing video games has given me insight into what exactly my preferences are with using a game controller. Over the years my likes and dislikes have been displayed going through a plethora of many different controllers (and maybe one or two being jettisoned out a window perhaps). Recently, I was given the opportunity through Pop Culture Cosmos this past CES 2017 to try the GameSir G3s wireless controller (GameSir MSRP $79.99 but currently as of this writing is $50 off on Amazon) and I can safely say it is one of the best controllers I have used in a long time.

To start, let’s talk about the controller itself. One of the newest controllers on the market, it is a Bluetooth wireless gamepad that is compatible with Windows, iOS and Android products and even the PlayStation 3 console. After testing it on all of these devices, the first thing noted is that it provides seamless connection with the PC and PS3 platforms. Utilizing your standard gamepad construction with a pair of analog sticks, triggers and bumpers the G3s on the surface may not differentiate itself from other third=party controllers. The cool part with this controller, however, is that it has a “Turbo” button that will essentially acts as an automatic press to give the player a faster trigger time while within the game. All this just by holding the button down you want to use in “Turbo” mode and then simply pressing the Turbo button. Simple, but still a very effective design addition that can improve the gamer’s performance overall. It will turn a semi-automatic weapon into an automatic, or it will create a never-ending melee attack and that will keep the player entrenched in a continuous attack mode.
When connecting the controller to a computer via the USB input, the G3s transformers into a PC gamer’s friend via its quick response and durable frame. Many games that were played, either from a PC or console standpoint felt very fluid and comfortable when using the G3s, like using a first-party controller that was built specifically for my hands. Same thing with the PlayStation 3, as a matter of fact, I didn’t realize I was using a third-party controller for a while. The dual vibration motors gave consistent, realistic feedback that provided more involvement in whatever game was being played. Mobile gaming was a bit dicey, with three attempts to connect to mobile devices failing with PIN errors unavoidable to get around before success with a connection was finally to be had. Now if only there were more mobile games that utilized a controller, but that it is for another day…
Overall, this controller will definitely “up” the gaming experience for any player, whether they are are a rookie “noob” or a seasoned pro. Let’s face it, there are so many different ways people out there get there gaming fix, it makes it hard for anyone to keep up with all the gaming peripherals they need to purchase. But with the GameSir G3s controller being out in the wild at various retailers it’s safe to say that this could be the answer to many of those questions.
