Who Is Hyperschmitt / An Interview with Chad Smith (Topicocalypse Episode 40)

We made it to the first ever episode 40! To those of you who have been following us since the beginning, thank you, and we're sorry you didn't have anything better to do with your time. On this episode, we have another very special guest. We're joined by Chad Smith of Hyperschmitt, not to be confused with the drummer of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. We're talking to Chad about his musical history and time in acts such as City of Lions (who was once given a shoutout by Ellie Goulding), Goodbye Luna, Redeemed by Association, Ammity, and his solo act. We'll talk about the rad dudes who helped inspire him - special shoutout to Brett Chiodo of Commonwealth and Richard Schmieg - and other great musical acts like Anthony Greene of Circa Survive, Breaking Benjamin, Chevelle, Atreyu, Underoath and others. We talk about band feuds, inspiration, and creativity. How do you balance being a creative person with religion? Speaking of religion, we dive down that rabbit hole by discussing hipster Chrstianity, hubris in worship leaders, Hillsong, people losing faith in Christianity, romanticizing religion, people worship, and how to change the church. We also briefly talk about video games (Pokemon, Cross Out, Horizon Zero Dawn, Far Cry 5, Far Cry 2, Final Fantasy) and our excitement for E3 2018. There's so much content in this episode beyond what's in this description, but you'll have to listen to it to find out more. Honorable mentions include: Justin Henry, Joseph Lee, Peter Rollins, Jared Leto, Roland Emerich, Jonathan Tropper and Brooke Lapiere (who walked through a desert bare foot for a music video). If you want to find Hyperschmitt on the Internet, you can find him on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, and check out his music on Spotify, iTunes, YouTube and more.
