Nintendo Updates The Top Ten Best-Selling Games For The Switch and 3DS

As part of its earnings release to shareholders, Nintendo outlined its top ten best selling games for the Nintendo Switch as of December 31st, 2018. While Mario Kart 8 Deluxe still continues to outpace all other games on the list at above 15 million sold (which the company added that 47% of all Switch owners bought a copy of the game), the major news coming out of the release was the early success for Super Smash Bros Ultimate. The title proved to be a big hit over the holidays as in less than two months it already has reached over 12 million in sales quickly outpacing any other Nintendo Switch game before it during a similar time period. Other notables included Pokemon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Pokemon: Let's Go Eevee! hitting the 10 million mark and October release Super Mario Party coming in at over 5 million purchased. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe - 15.02 million
Super Mario Odyssey - 13.76 million
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate - 12.08 million
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - 11.68 million
Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee! - 10.00 million
Splatoon 2 - 8.27 million
Super Mario Party - 5.30 million
1-2-Switch - 2.86 million
Mario Tennis Aces - 2.53 million
Kirby Star Allies - 2.42 million
When talking about the 3DS, Mario Kart 7 remains at the top, proving once again gaming fans affection for the series with Pokemon X and Y and Pokemon Sun and Moon not too far behind. Here is the top ten list for 3DS games in lifetime sales (as of December 31st, 2018):
Mario Kart 7 - 18.11 million
Pokémon X and Y - 16.37 million
Pokémon Sun and Moon - 16.14 million
Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire - 14.17 million
New Super Mario Bros. 2 - 13.08 million
Super Mario 3D Land - 12.41 million
Animal Crossing: New Leaf - 12.10 million
Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS - 9.45 million
Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon - 8.28 million
Tomodachi Life - 6.40 million pcs.
To get an idea of what an attachment rate looks like with the Nintendo Switch, analyst with Niko Partners, Daniel Ahmad (@ZhugeEX) posted a graph on his Twitter account.
Looking to continue the Mario Kart magic when it comes to a mobile platform, the company also announced a delay of the upcoming Mario Kart Tour from a scheduled end of March time frame to the summer of 2019.
