What Do We Do When the People Who Inspire Us Are Suffering? Some Thoughts on Suicide and Depression

It's the first week of January and we're kicking off another episode of Topicocalypse. We're back, it's 2018, we've made resolutions, broken them, fallen off the deep end and climbed our way back to recovery so we could record a brand new podcast for all of you. Danial is kicking us off with another music-based topic. He asks us what we do when the musicians and artists we turn to for inspiration and to feel better about our problems are mentally and emotionally unstable, citing specifically the tragic loss of Chris Cornell, Chester Bengington and Layne Staley. This gets us into a topic about suicde, anxiety, and depresison and how we handle these things. Josh brings up Ned Vizzini, the late author of the bestselling young adult novel, "It's Kind of a Funny Story," and we're joined by James Benjamin who brings up some great points about society's ability to sympathize and empathize with what other people are going through.

As always, you can find us on the web at humannequinmedia.com and follow us on Facebook and Twitter. As mentioned above, it's 2018 and we're looking to take things to the next level, which requires funds. You don't have to give, but if you have some extra change to spare, you can donate to our cause at patreon.com/humannequinmedia. Don't forget to subscribe to us on iTunes, Podbean, podcasts.com, Google Play, Stitcher, YouTube, and other podcasting outlets around the globe. If you happen to be on any Apple products, we would love if you could rate and review us. We hope you enjoy the episode.
